Introduction
Paiwan people believe that the clay pot is where the ancestral spirit resides. It is the womb that breeds the tribal culture and the key that connects the ancestral origin, the privilege and intermarriage of the tribal leaders, and the legacy of the tribal nobility as well as its continuation.Millet is the staple food of Paiwan. Farming, planting, weeding, harvesting, and other agricultural activities and related rituals form the rhythm of the tribal life throughout a whole year. Hunting is a livelihood activity for traditional Paiwan males. This demonstrates the tribe's respect for heaven and earth, the use and regulation of natural resources and their rich knowledge about the mountains and the forests. The artist weaves clay pots, millet, and arrows with bamboo strips. The work symbolizes Paiwan's modesty and their commitment to land ethics. With moderated use of natural resources in accordance followed by the natural cycle, a relationship informed with abundance, mutual respect and love is created among heaven, earth and humanity.
